I often get asked how early is too early for chiropractic care and why would children need adjustments. As demonstrated in the above picture, infants and toddlers can be candidates for chiropractic care. The little guy above is no longer so little and well on his way to running, climbing, and more.
So what qualifies children for chiropractic care?
- Birth trauma
- Torticollis (spinal accessory nerve dysfunction leading to the head tilted to one side)
- Congenital conditions (things the child was born with) that range from congenital hip dysplasia, hemivertebrae, scoliosis, etc.
- Injuries from sports, activities, learning to climb, etc.
- Headaches, irritability, and a general fussy temperament
- Colic
- Muscle aches and pains
- Digestive complaints (constipation, bloating, etc)
If your child or one you know may suffer from any of the above conditions or something else muscular, skeletal or neurological please have them book a consultation. Consultations are used to help address questions of the parents and to determine if the child requires further chiropractic assessment and/or referral to another health care practitioner. Children are made up of the same muscles, nerves and joints as adults and require movement and participation in a variety of activities to develop. When they are assessed and treated soon after the discovery of a dysfunction, they tend to heal quickly.
Akin to regular dental, eye and medical check ups often scheduled for your little ones, chiropractic spinal check ups should be a priority. We often say we’ll do anything to ensure our children receive the care and benefits that will allow them to flourish into great individuals, so why not ensure their spinal health is also a priority. After all, your spine houses the spinal cord, a major component of the most important system in your body – the nervous system. Without proper nerve function (your wiring if you may) your muscles, organs, joints, and so much more would not send or receive the necessary signals required to support the high quality of life you are designed to have.
Going to see the chiropractor for a spinal check up just makes sense when you realize that being able to hurt less and move better allows you to live well.
